The 29-year-old Duke of Cambridge and his wife met patients and their parents during a tour of the Oak Centre for Children and Young People at the Royal Marsden in South London, the Sun reported.

Patients and the hospital staff had crowded on to the building’s balconies before the arrival of the royal couple, with some of them even waving Union flags, and a huge cheer erupted as their car pulled up.

Earlier in the day, the second in the line of succession had carried out the “compassionate call-out” during a normal 24-hour shift during which he picked up a serviceman with serious head injuries in Snowdonia and ferried him from a warship to Sandhurst.

The hospital visited by the couple is the same that Princess Diana supported as a part of her wide-ranging charity work.
